Capernaum, Mt of Beatitudes, Sea of Galilee and Nazareth

It was pretty cool spending the night in Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee. I was excited because 3 other people from a cruise were meeting up and joining the tour for 2 days starting today. We met them here and they are awesome. A married couple and their 22 year old daughter from Midway Utah.

Did you know that 85% of Christ's miracles from the 4 gospels were performed in Capernaum? I cannot believe I am here! It is right on the Sea of Galilee.

Can't say I imagined palm trees all over here.

The Catholics believe this was Peter's house. They built a church right above it.

These ruins are from the time of Christ. They have been influenced by later civilizations somewhat. But ancient Capernaum is right here. That is crazy!

This synagogue was built in the late 4th century. But the black you see (the foundation and bottom part) is from Jesus' time. It was a synagogue and he surely came here and preached and performed miracles.

In the synagogue Steven went through some Jewish customs of worship.

This guy's video camera cracked me up.

Right above Capernaum on the hill side is the Mount of Beatitudes where Jesus preached The Sermon on the Mount. Awesome!

We sat on these rocks and read the beatitudes. I also had a great study on my own. Had a wonderful moment here.

Unfortunately they don't know the exact location where he preached the sermon. But it was somewhere right near here on this mount. The catholic church owns this land and has a church built here. I'm grateful they let us come here.

Steven said some tradition says he preached the sermon right over here on the other side of this fence.

Awesome place to visit!

We left here and drove back to Tiberias to catch a boat for a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee.

Driving by the Sea of Galilee reminded me so much of Bear lake actually! The color, the size, the mountains on the other side...Kind of weird. And Steven, our guide told me when he first saw Bear Lake he said it reminded him of the Sea of Galilee. How funny is that.

The boat ride!

Cool, they are into boating here.

Capernaum and Mount of Beatitudes from the water. This is as close as we got.

As we turned around we read the account of Christ walking on water right here. Incredible how being here changes a story like that. This is where he called Peter and said to Be Ye Fishers of Men. This is where he came as a resurrected being and told Peter to cast his nets on the other side. Christ lived here on the sea in Capernaum for 18+ months right before he went to Jerusalem and was crucified. Sooooooo much history here!

I loved this! Had a great spirit on the water.

We then had some lunch right on the water. I had fish of course :) it was a Tilapia caught from the Sea of Galilee. This is so much fun.

We stopped and looked at this recent archaeological discovery. This is a boat from Christ's time! This was just found something like 10 or 20 years ago. the process for keeping the boat from withering when they pulled it out of the mud was cool.

We then went for a drive to leave Galilee and to go to Nazareth. Bye bye Bear Lake, I mean Sea of Galilee. I knew leaving here this was going to be one of my favorite places. How much of the New Testament took place right here? And the fact this is where Christ and Peter walked on water here is mind blowing.

We drove through Nazareth and stopped here. None of us could figure out why. It's beautiful and the view is incredible!

This is the Jezreel Valley. Many battles from the Bible were fought here and battles related to the battle of Armageddon will be started and fought here.

And to the left of the valley is Mount Tabor! No way! This is where the Mount of Transfiguration happened!! We read the account. Christ was transfigured there and he had heavenly visitors and God spoke to him there!

Steven told a great story of how Spencer W Kimball came to Israel and had one day to see Jerusalem and Nazareth and Galilee. He was also scheduled to do two firesides. Busy day! On his way his guide pointed Mount Tabor out to him and President Kimball said, "I want to go up there." the guide explained it takes 45 minutes to drive up there because of the switchbacks. Kimball said again, "I want to go up there." the guide looked at the BYU professors and they shrugged their shoulders haha. That night at his fireside in Jerusalem he said, "I went to Mount Tabor today and felt as if I was on the highest peak in the world." the mount of Transfiguration!

Nazareth! Where Jesus was raised! I imagined this as a village, it is a big city now.

Not a lot is written about his time in Nazareth. Steven took us to the one place that is scripture. This hill called the Hill of Precipitation is where the people were bringing Jesus to stone him. How they stoned in ancient time was throwing the body in a stone quarry and killing him. This church stands on the hill they brought him too when Jesus said he was the Savior and they said, "isn't this Joseph's son?" they tried to stone him but he escaped.

The stone quarry dating back to Christ's time!

Nazareth!

After this we headed for Haifa to drop the 3 off back at their cruise ship and then we made the long drive home to Jerusalem! Awesome day!

Galilee area is so cool! Loving this tour and all I'm learning.
